NATURAL HISTORY
CHEESEMAN PRIZES Fourteen entries of natural history displays for tho Choeseman Memorial Prize competition wcro received from pupils of secondary schools. All tho exhibits, which are of a particularly high standard, are being displayed at tho Auckland War Memorial Museum. Tho first prize in tho girls' division was awarded to an exhibit showing a comparison between tho leaves, cones and timber of tho kauri and pmus insinnis. A collection of siliceous rocks comprising a series of 30 different specimens arranged in a case, with written descriptions, was awarded second prize. Tho third prize was given to a display consisting of 52 specimens of furs mounted on a panel. The first award in tho hoys section is a model showing all tho stages in the commercial manufacture ot superphosphates from natural materials. iHo second prizo was given to a collection of various specimens of native anu introduced birds' eggs. The third prizo exhibit is a panel illustrating tho dispersal of seeds. Tho awards arc: — . Girls. —First prize, Connie Hebblcthwaite, Form Vl.a, Epsom Girls Grammar School.
