Kept. 21 The whole of Japan is in the grip of a fierce typhoon and the; havoc caused is increasing every hour. Communications have been disrupted, trains wrecked, and ships driven ashore. Rivers arc swollen and tens of thousands of homes have been inundated. Osaka, Kyoto and Kobe are tbe worst sufferers. At Osaka, the Tennoji Temple Pagoda, which had withstood storms for centuries, has been overturned. Several schools have been wrecked and upwards of 500 pupils, mostly girls, have been killed. Thousands o!r people have been injured. A tidal wave swept Sakai, near Osaka. At Kyoto a girls' school collapsed and 300 pupils were killed or injured. The typhoon at noon to-day was sweeping Tokio and Yokoham.il. Buildings have been wrecked in all parts-of the country. The casualties cannot be ascertained yet.
