POSTAL DELIVERIES

Sir, —One is tempted to believe that a policy of deliberate delay is in force now in our local postal system. If not, how is the following to be accounted for? On a recent Thursday a postcard was mailed in Onehunga to a resident of Remuera. The sender, not having the descriptive circular that that the post office should furnish every householder with, was naturally unaware of the postal district indication, and so posted the card without it. That card was not delivered in Remuera till Saturday. Cnder the old system this delivery would have been made on the following Friday morning. Therefore I again say that it appears a policy of studied delay is now in force in the local postal system. F.H.M. [Postal officials described as absurd th" suggestion that postal packets were delayed in transit because they did not bear the district indicator. They pointed out that a letter bearing the correct address and posted at Onehunga on Thursday afternoon or evening should reach the General Post Office early the following morning, when it would lie forwarded to Pemuera in time to be delivered on the postman's first morning round. Without seeing the postmarks on the card mentioned they could not account for the delay mentioned, but did not deny the possibility of delav, although this would be less likely if the indicator letters were added to tiie address.]
