PLEASURE CRUISES
UNION COMPANY TRIPS Cruising in modern liners steadily grows in popularity, not only in Europe and America, but also in Australia and New Zealand. The cruise offers an opportunity of escape into an environment of gaiety and irresponsibility that is all too wanting in the lives of many people, and that at a cost which compares most favourably with anything it is possible to do, under the same luxurious conditions, on a land holiday. There is also the romance and beauty of the places of call, the benefit to health and nerves by the almost constant outdoor life, the rest or exercise according to age, health, or temperament, and the absence of all the worries and uncertainties of ordinary travel.
Five cruises are to be made by vessels of the Union Line front New Zealand ports this summer, as follows: The Monowai will make two cruises from Auckland to Whangaroa, the Bay of Islands—with visits to historic Russell. tho early missionary settlement of Paihia, and Waitangi- and Port Fitzroy (Great Barrier Island). These will bo from December 24 to December 28. and again from January 21 to January 25. Tho Marama will make two cruises, from January 28 to February 1. and from February 25 to March 1, from Wellington to Port Hardy (D'Urville Island), Queen Charlotte Sound and Pelorous Sound, a landing being made, if circumstances are favourable, at Ship Cove, Captain Cook's historic rendezvous.
The Monowai. leaving Wellington on February 4, and arriving back on February 8, will proceed to the West Coast sounds, her principal objective being Milford Sound, to which she has already made several successful cruises.
