THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE LESS ACTIVE CONDITIONS - Reaction to the tirm and active conditions of the past feu- weeks was noticeable in the investment market on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday. The turnover was reduced considerably and quotations for some issues \nrcr6 pasut. Government, loans, however, were again strongly supported and buyers advanced their limits by as much as 15s for the 3} per cent and 4' per cent stocks. A parcel of 1939-13 3§ per cents changed hands ex interest at. £IOB ss, a drop of 13s, but more were vainly / Bought at £IOB 10s. The 1955 4 per "" cents were 'done 2s Gd higher at £ll2 ss, with aa unsatisfied closing demand at 7s (id. The 1946 stock was placed 15s dearer £IOB 15s. Concessions were made by holders of several bunk issues and for others inquiry was weaker. English, Scottish and Australians changed hands Is 6d lowerat £3 6s 6d and business at current rates passed in Commercials and Reserve Banks, The insurance group was inactive, supplies remaining extremely scarce. For New Zealands and South British, buyers offered 3d more* at 67s 6d and 80s 3d respectively, but "holders withdrew. In loan and agency, Guarantee Corporations sold at 5s 4d, which is 8d higher than a week ago, and Farmers' Auctioneerings, B preference, lid dearer at 21s 6d. Recent improvement in New Zealand Taper Mills was reflected in a transfer Is 9d higher at 32s 9d. New Zealand Newspapers were done at 32s 8d and 32s 9d, a gain of 3d. A rise of Is was registered in a sale of Burns-Philp at 55s and Consolidated Bricks moved to 10s lOd after I two transactions unchanged at 10s 9d. Taupo Totaras were a shade cheaper on sale, while Kafapoi Woollens, 7s paid, made a further slight gain. Levels for (Auckland Gas were easier, but selling took place at the current price.
