DIOCESAN SYNOD

SESSION NEXT MONTH PROGRAMME ARRANGED The third session of the 27th Synod of the diocese of Auckland will open on Wednesday, October 10. There will bo a quiet morning in tho cathedral for clergy, laity and church workers conducted by Archdeacon J. R. Young, of Wanganui. At a special synod service in the cathedral in the evening Archdeacon Young will be the preacher.

The business of the synod will formally open on the Thursday, when after eight o'clock communion and breakfast in the Bishopscourt library, synod will assemble in the cathedral for roll call. After it has been constituted and Archbishop Averill has delivered his charge, it will adjourn until the afternoon for the transaction of business. For the remainder of its sitting days the synod will conduct business each afternoon and evening. On the Friday morning a conference of lay members will be held in the synod hall, and these members will afterwards lunch with Archbishop and Mrs. Averill. The St. John's College Association will meet at St, John's College on the Saturday morning, and in the afternoon Archbishop and Mrs. Averill will bo "At Home" to members of synod, their wives and their hosts and hostesses.

At a service for members of Bible classes 011 the Sunday afternoon windows will be unveiled and dedicated to the memory of Archdeacon Walsh, of Waimate, and the Bev. Hone W. Papahia, formerly assistant superintendent of the Maori Mission. Monday is the concluding day, when there wiil be a conference of clergy in the morning, followed by lunch in the Bishopscourt library. An attendance of about 150 members, among whom the clergy and laity are evenly divided, is expected at the synod. Problems of social service will be among the most important to come before synod.
