DETAILED AUGUST RETURN NET REVENUE £9827 HIGHER [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESJPONDENT] WELLINGTON. Thursday The abstract of the railway working account for the four-weekly period ended August 18, gazetted to-night, gives details supplementing the preliminary statement made by the chairman of the board on September 5. The net earnings amounted to £25,525, compared with £15,693 for the corresponding period last year, an increase of £9827.

The gross revemie was £440,084, which was £33,120 more than last year, and expenses were increased by £23,293 to £414,559.

The operating account for the North Island lines shows a revenue of £228,864, an increase of £20,598, and expenses totalling £221,455, an increase of £14,154. There was a profit of £7409, compared with £965 last year.

The receipts of the South Island railways were £159,803, an increase of £9602, and expenses were £163,669, an increase of £5919. There was a working loss of £3866, compared with a loss of £7519 last year.

The balance,of miscellaneous revenue was £21,982, as against £22,322 in 1933. The revenue was £51,417, and the expenditure £29,435. , For the period from April 1 to August 18 the net revenue was £300,888, compared with £247,780 last year. The gross revenue was £2,356,633, an increase of £142,013.
