PONSONBY CRUISING CLUB SOUND FINANCIAL POSITION "It would be difficult to find a better record than in the season just completed," stated Mr. A. Thompson, •who presided at the annual meeting of the Ponsonby Cruising Club last evening. Mr. Thompson said he had been connected with the club since its foundation 35 years ago, and he could not recall such a successful season as the one just completed. The club was in a very sound financial position, which was something to be proud of.
The annual report stated that tho committee decided to reduce tho boat racing subscriptions by half, and to subsidise all entry fees received per class to the extent of 25 per cent. The innovation proved a great success, both from a racing as well as a financial point of view. Fivo racing days were held, and large entrica were received for all classes, the total for the Benson being 330, including 38 Heme Bar midgets.
After competine lor the Lipton Cup for a period of 13 yearn, without success, .the club succeeded in winning it Inst season with the Komuri. In view of the fact that there were many new boats racing las' year, competition wa» very Item, eapccinlly in classes S, V and Y, and, with probably six new mullet boats and Bevernl smaller craft now being built, the coininß season promised to be 11 record one. A feature of tli(' raciiiK was thnt no protosts were received. Out of 74 different bonta that raced. 52 received prizes. The chairman referred to the services rendered "by the hon. treasurer, Mr. IT. It, Arthur, who has been actively connected with the club for the past 23 years, for 17 of which he has held the position of treasurer, and is still in office.
The statement of accounts showed a credit hnlnnce of .€'2B on the year's working and the reserve fund a credit of £6OO. The receipts included £33 from entrance fees. £25 from subscriptions, and f23 from donations. The principnl item of expenditure was £49 for prir.es. Messrs. H. Kirkham and T. Quinn were, elected life members of the club in appreciation of services rendered.
