MEETINGS THIS WEEK

GEEALDINE AND FOXTON NEW ZEALAND CUP HORSES RED MANFRED TO REAPPEAR BY ARCHER The spring racing campaign will be continued this week, with the Geraldine Racing Club's meeting to-morrow and on Saturday, and the Foxtou Rac ing Club's meeting on Saturday. The acceptances for Foxton do not close until this evening, but those for; Geraldine are very satisfactory, and the well-balanced fields engaged should provide some very interesting racing. .4n interesting feature of the racing at Ccraldme should be the presence of & number of New Zealand Cup candidates, ot whom there are no fewer than 12 engaged. Davolo, Polydoru, Some Shamble, Red Racer, Lockslev and Horowhenua are in the Geraldine Cup, while Great Star, Silver Sight, Cough and Sungem are in the Bel,l field Handicap, and Free Air in the First Hurdles. Rod Racer is also in the Bellfield Handicap, so that he lias a double engagement. Red Racer has the distinction of being the oldest horse nominated for the New Zealand Cup, being an 11-year-old gelding by Solferino from Soldier's Fancy. It is also probable that there will be some New Zealand Cup candidates competihg at Foxton, as Limbohm, Gold Trail, Arikira, Hazoor, Catalogue and Princess Doreen have been nominated for the Carnarvon Gold Cup, and Walton Park for the Robinson Handicap. Red Manfred is entered for both these races and, as he is at present located at Foxton, it is quite on the cards that F. Davis will give h.im a run in one of these events, possibly the shorter one, the Robinson Handicap, which is run over seven furlongs. As he was the principal winner among/last season's three-year-olds, Eed Manfred's reappearance will be awaited with interest. The Manfred gelding is a brilliant galloper, but, although he won the Great Northern Derby ;ind the Great Northern St. Leger last season, his staying ability has yet/ to be thoroughly tested, for he was not opposed by very strong fields in either of those races. However, there wiil be some good races for him before the New Zealand Cup comes up for decision in November, and it is quite likely that he will compete at Ellerslie and Trentham before then.

NEW BIRDCAGE SCHEME FOR ELLERSLIE LATER PRELIMINARIES A scheme for alteration of the birdcage arrangements at Ellerslie is being considered by the committee of the Auckland Racing Club. If the scheme is adopted the birdcage will be in the inner paddock at present vsed for the parking of members' motorcars, and the present birdcage will be used solely fjbr mounting purposes and not for parading. The idea is to save as much time as possible between races. The horses will do their preliminaries only a few minutes before starting-time instead of half an hour or, tnqwbefore " : <.«• ••• •■■■ '< ' Fpr ruse in very bad weather the inner rail from the five-furlongs post to the straight on the course proper will be fitted with a duplicate rail extending out about 12ft. If the going near the inner rail gets badly cut up the duplicate rail, which is to be made in sections so that it can be quickly erected, will he brought into use. with the result that the horses will be able to get the best of the going. NOTES FROM EVERYWHERE TRACK AND STABLER GOSSIP An interesting featura of the breeding of the Wanganui Guineas winner, Pin. Money, is tKfct he was produced when his dam. Vicereine, was 24. He is the last of the progeny of Vicereine, who has 1G foals in all. the first in 19 U and the last in 1931. Vicereine was destroyed in 1932 at the age of 25. One of the latest additions to the active brigade at Ellerslie is a five-year-old gelding by Kilhroney from Llanbem. by Marble Arch—Recoup, by Hierarch —Agatha. by Nelson. The newcomer is named Radnor and he is being trained by A. Kemp. He is a half-brother to Clarua and Solanio. Mr, Ai H. Long's horses Lord Val, Friar Albert us and Sir Abb, who have been under the c.ire of ,H. Nesbit. wlli in future be trained by R. 3. Bazby. With the addition of these horses Bag by s team will number eight, bis other charges bein? Chromadyne. Gay Marigold. Fei Mah. Tidalia and Aramis. The three-year-old Collodion displayed plenty of speed in the Spring Hack Handicap at'Wanganui, but he weakened at the end and was evidently not quite himseit. Collodion is a nice type of three-year-old by Colossus from the Absurd mare Absurdity and should not be discredited for his defeat lust week. Lack of aize is against Headmistress, but •he is very genuine and ran two fine races in the big hack fields she opposed at Wanganui, winning on the first daj and running fourth on*the second, when she did not have the best of luck. In her Present form Headmistress n likely to account for another slake at any time.

As the result of a knock he gave .hi! mself in the roaddock. one of Baroscope 9 hind legs has filled and in consequence his work ye-terciav was of a very light nature.
