HOCKEY TEAM TOURS

AUSTRALIA AND DOMINION POSSIBILITY OF CESSATION "A resolution preventing Australian hockey teams from visiting the Dominion during the annual inter-State hockey carnival, passed recently at the annual meeting of the Australian Hockey Association, may possibly put an end to any interchange of visits between the two countries," said \V. Kothwell, manager of the touring Australian hockey leg in, which arrived from the South yesterday. "The carnival is always held in August, and it is impossible to com" to New Zealand in June and July, ar not only is it too early in the season, but also climatic conditions are less favourable. Ihe trouble has arisen through some teams being seriously weakened at the carnival at Adelaide by the absence of outstanding players on the present tour. However, there will not be another Australian touring team until 19M8, so that the resolution may be rescinded before then." Commenting on the standard of playin New Zealand. Mr. Kothwell considered that it had not improved since his last visit. In his opinion New Zealand hockey was at its best, especially in the provincial centres, about 1925.
