CONFIDENCE IN SYDNEY RISE IN PRICES CONTINUES (Received September 14, 7.35 p.m.) SYDNEY, Sept. 14 After a week of rising prices, shares on the Sydney Stock Exchange went still higher to-day in anticipation of the general election to-morrow resulting in the return of the Lyons Government. The turnover was largo and widespread throughout the market and there was a strong, confident tone. Banking shares particularly were strong. Heavy dealings on the gold share market also were recorded, mostly at advanced rates. Commonwealth bonds were firmer. THE CITY MARKETS ORANGES IN DEMAND DULL SALE OF LEMONS South Australian oranges were in keen demand at the City Markets yesterday, prices remaining firm at from 16s to 24s a case, according to count. There was a shortage of ripe bananas, those available selling readily at 14s to 20s a case. The sale of lemons was very dull, large supplies coming forward. The market was heavily supplied with onions, cabbages and celery, while good supplies of new potatoes, kumaras, cucumbers, carrots and pumpkins also were available. The demand was fair. A medium supply of poultry met with a very fair inquiry, prices being unaltered. Values were:— FRUIT Apples, Delicious. good. 3s 6d to ss; inferior, 2s' 6d to 3s: Sturmers, 6s to 7s 6d; Granny Smith, 5s to 8s; Munroes, 4s to 6s; Ballarat's, good condition. 6s; poor, 2s to 3s; pears. CANNED FRUIT AUSTRALIAN EXPORTS LONDON, Sept. 13 The Imperial Economic Committee's report on supplies of canned fruit in 1933 shows that Australia established a now record. Her imports of raisins and sultanas to the United Kingdom totalled 43,000 tons, far the largest quantity from any individual country, and formed nearly 60 per cent of the total supplies.
