KOWHAI MOST POPULAR FINAL RESULT OF VOTING The vote taken at the Auckland Horticultural Society's sliow, which concluded yesterday in the Town Hall, to choose the most suitable of New Zealand's native flowers for a national emblem, has resulted in the popular selection of the kowhai. The votes recorded were as follows: —Kowhai, 265; clematis, 227; manuka, 169; pohutukawa, 112; rata, 37; fern leaf, 22. Among several comments written on voting cards was the following:—"A ridiculous idea, as the public is no judge of a native flower." Another remark was: "As the fern leaf was good enough for our boys to fight under, please leave it." CLEMATIS FAVOURED PUKEKOHE SOCIETY'S CHOICE [FROM OUR OWN correspondent] FUKEKOHE. Friday A vote of members of the Pukekohc Horticultural Society as to the choice of a national flower for New Zealand was taken at a miniature show held by the society this week. A choice between five flowers was given and preferential voting was used. First choice votes were:—Clematis, 26; kowhai, 10; pohutukawa, 9; rata, 7; manuka, .'5. Clematis was marked as second choice by eight members and kowhai b.v 20. Clematis thus easily gained first place.
