WATER FOR OTAHUHU
CITY OFFERS SUPPLY DISCUSSION OF PRICE An offer to supply the Otahuhu Borough Council with water at Is per 1000 gallons on the basis of a 21 years' contract was made by the City Council last night in reply to a request from the former body for information as to the price likely to be charged for water at the Otahuhu boundary.
In recommending that an offer should be made on the same terms as those extended to other local bodies the waterworks engineer, Mr. A. D. Mead, said that, owing to the capital involved in providing the supply, a long contract would be necessary. There could be provision for price reductions at the end of periods of seven years. The offer would have to be subject to the satisfactory completion of negotiations now proceeding with the Mount Wellington Road Board and industrial firms at Westfield regarding water supply.
It was decided to make the offer on the understanding that the Otahuhu borough would draw its whole Bupply from the city.
