MELBOURNE CENTENARY
THE MAYOR TO ATTEND LEAVE OF ABSENCE GRANTED The receipt of an invitation to the Mayor of Auckland, Mr. G. W. Hutchison, to attend the Melbourne Centenary celebrations in November as the guest of the Centenary Council was reported to the City Council last night.
Mr. Hutchison said the dates would coincido with the arrival in Melbourne of the Mayoress, Mrs. Hutchison, on her return from London. Mr. Hutchison said acceptance of the invitation would involve leave of absence for November and possibly the first council meeting in December. The council woulti not tie called upon to meet any of the expenses.
The council granted . the necessary leave of absence, the deputy-Mayor, Mr. A. J. Entrican, remarking that j members of the council were delighted that Mr. Hutchison had been honoured in this way and was going to attend what would probably be the greatest celebration held in Australia. He was sure that Auckland would be worthily represented.
