THE DAIRY INDUSTRY
NORFOLK COMPANY'S YEAR BETTER QUALITY OF CHEESE [from OUR owx correspondent] HAMILTON, Thursday The 19th annual meeting of the shareholders of the Norfolk Co-opera-tive Dairy Company, Limited, was held to-day at Motumaoho. In his annual report the chairman of directors. Mr. S. A. Ferguson, stated that the butter-fat receipts during the season showed a slight decrease on those for the previous year, which was a record for the company, and the quantity of cheese made was 548 tons llcwt. All cheese had been shipped on consignment, and generally prices had been low, with little fluctuation. However,, there had been a slight improvement during the past few months. It was pleasing to note, said Mr. Ferguson, that the average grading for the season showed an improvement, and that the quantity of second-grade cheese had been only half that of the previous season. The fact that milk-grading had been in force, and that a farm dairy instructor had been employed during the season, had helped to bring about the improvement. The average of the advance payments for the year was 9.01 d per lb. butterfat and there was available for distribution 1.02 d per lb., making a total of 10.03 d. A bonus amounting to £1643 was paid on July 20, and a final payment would be made as soon as the cheese was sold. A recommendation by the directors that a 2\ per cent dividend be paid on share capital was negatived by the shareholders. Two retiring directors, Messrs. W. F. Stark and L. F. Hinton, were reelected.
