MARKET STILL FIRM JAPANESE COMPETITION (Received September 6, 9.15 p.m.) SYDNEY, Sept. 6 At the Sydney wool sales to-day, 8784 bales were offered and 7248 were sold. Also 2631 bales were sold privately. There was good. Japanese competition well supported by . Yorkshire and to a lesser extent by the Continent. The market generally was equal to the best rates of" the week for all well-grown wools, but there were some withdrawals of heavy, dusty fines for which competition was restricted. Greasy Merino made to 16d. The average price of new clip wools in the greasy section on the first three days of this week was £l3 3s 8d a bale or lOd a lb. - DAIRY PRODUCE PRICES MARKET FAIRLY STEADY Only minor variations have occurred in the quotations for New Zealand butter on the London market. Merchants have received the following cablegrams from their London houses, dated September s: Joseph Nathan and Company, Limited, from Trengrouse and Nathan: — Butter: Finest, 78s; seasonable margin is appearing- in first grade, which is now 765. Cheese: White, 495; coloured, 45s to 45s 6d. Both markets are quiet but steady. The New Zealand Lean and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited: — Butter: 78s to 795. UNCHANGED DIVIDEND The net profit of General Finance, Limited, Wellington, for the year ended July 31 was £856. A sum of £lsl was' brought forward and out of the £IOO7 available the directors recommend a dividend at the unchanged rate of 5 per cent, absorbing £487, the transfer of £3OO to reserve, increasing it to £IOOO, and to carry £220 forward.
