GIRL AS A FARMER
CHAMPIONSHIP HONOURS For the second time in the 14 years since the annual competition for the W. Stuart Wilson Cup was inaugurated, the award has been won by a girl. The cup is com ))oted for annually among boys and girls' agricultural clubs throughout New Zealand, ami the winner is the boy or girl judged to be the "champion farmer." It has been announced by the Department of Agriculture that this year's "champion farmer" is Miss E. Scott, of the Romaliapa School, Otago, who grew a crop of turnips yielding 88 tons Bewt. an acre. Special mention was made of the performance of Master Graham Caldwell, aged 12, of Warea, North Taranaki, who grew in poor soil a crop of carrots yielding 684 tons an acre. "The results attained by Miss Scott and Master Caldwell should encourage all boys and girls to take part in the competition," says Mr. W. Stuart Wilson, "particularly, as all the indications are now that New Zealand soon will, be in a prosperous condition."
