STUDY IN PSYCHOLOGY

An entertaining and charming novel of the lighter type is " Slings and Arrows," by Barbara Goolden, a story which . centres round two married couples. There is Aubrey Shawcrosn, actor, ex-officer and victim of shell shock, and his wife, Bridget, largehearted, far-seeing and a wholly lovable character. Then is introduced Phyllida Daldn, sophisticated and brittle, and her elderly, idealistic husband. Phyllida and Aubrey seek a happiness which proves only 'transitory and the endeavours of all four people to achieve the peace and comfort which can exist only between happily-suited couples meet with varying success. The book is a clever study in psychology as well as an appealing story. " Slinks and Arrows," by Barbara Goolden. (Macmillan).
