STRUGGLE IN A CAFE
THROWN ON HOT RANGE SYDNEY TRAFFIC OFFICER ARREST OF A SUSPECT By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright (Received August 19. 5.5 p.m.) SYDNEY. August 19 A traffic officer, Sergeant Parr, had a sensational clash with a Greek yesterday after an interrogation of a man for alleged jay walking. It is stated that the officer was endeavouring to ascertain the name of the man in question, and followed him to the kitchen of a restaurant, where a Greek wearing a waiter's coat attacked the sergeant with a chair. Eventually, it is alleged, the sergeant was picked up bodily and thrown on to an almost red-hot range. He received severe burns on the legs and one hand. In spite of these injuries the officer dived at his assailant, who is alleged to have grasped a knife. After a further struggle the man, escaped into the street. The officer followed and saw a man running. Drawing a revolver, he commanded the man to stop and arrested him. Subsequently, Sergeant Parr was taken to hospital for treatment.
