Miss Betty Mcßae, Palmerston North, is leaving at the end of the week for a brief visit to Auckland.
Mrs. G. H. Stephenson. New Plymouth, is the guest of her sister, Mrs. L. T. Symes, St. Stephen's Avenue, Parnell.
Miss A. Dennis, Christchurch, who has been visiting Italy and England, will return to New Zealand by the Rangitata on August 20.
Mrs. H. .vCaro, Hamilton; Mrs. J. Hotchin, Wellington;. Miss Wyn Smith, Gisborne; Miss Quirk, Te Aroha; and Miss I. Street, Rotorua, are at the Station Hotel. The Mothers' Club of the Y.W.C.A. met this week, Mrs. C. Dickens presiding. Impromptu speeches formed the afternoon's programme. Hostesses for tea were Mrs. Clark and Mrs. Wright. Mrs. J. P. Kalaugher presided at the monthly meeting of the Devonport branch of the Plunket Society, held in Mark's Building yesterday. Mrs. J. N. Waddell was elected to the committee. The following was the nurse's report: —New babies, 8; visits to homes, 54; visits to rooms, adults, 266; babies, 225; children, 52; total, 543. The box money had amounted to £1 17s BJd. The annual meeting of the Rotorua Girl Guides was held this week, Mrs. H. Louden presiding. A successful year was recorded and the following officers were appointed:—President, Mrs. H. Louden; vice-presidents, Mesdames Wallis, Hitchcock, Roberts and Roe; secretary, Mrs. Coates; treasurer, Mrs. Tanner; committee, Mesdames W. A. McLean, James, Penno, R. Jones, Bullin, Harris, Hodgson, Callingham, Mason and Miss Robinson.
The members of the Stanley Bay Croquet Club held a bridge afternoon in the bowlers' pavilion yesterday. The prizes were won by Mrs. Prime, senr. (highest number) and Mrs. A. Callow (hidden number). The players present included:—Mrs. W. V. Bremner (president), Mrs. L. Cusworth (secretary), Mrs. A. Callow, Mrs. S. Weller, Mrs. Chapman, Mrs B. Lock, Mrs. Flinn, Mrs. Bartleet, Mrs. W.
