WOMEN'S DIVISION

Branch reports of the Waitemata provincial executive of the Women's Division of, the Farmers' Union are as follows: — Ardinoro. —At a recent meeting it was resolved to form a link with an isolated branch of the division at Wekaweka, Hokinnga, and to exchange ideas and competitions with their members. The competition, " A toy, cost not to exceed 25," was-won by Mrs. G. Burnside, with Mrs. Finch second. The floral" competition resulted as follows; —Mrs. Heron 1, Mrs. Finch 2. Good business was done at the exchange stall, and the book exchange also proved popular. Mangatangi. —There was an increased attendance of members and friends at the August meeting of the branch. Mrs. T. Wilson presided. The competition. guessing the identity of childhood photos of members, caused much amusement. A small bring-and-buy salo was held, and a parcel of papers and magazines was despatched to a relief camp. Mercer.—Mrs. W. G. Graham presided at a recent meeting of the branch. The points competition s'fcones resulted as follows: —Mrs. I'att 1 Mrs. Dean 2, Mrs. Smith 3. Another competition, "Loaves From a Garden," was won by Mrs. Dean, of Pokcno. The roll-call was "Proverbs. Onewhero. —At a recent meeting regret was expressed at tho absence of Mrs. Baby, who had attended every previous meeting of tho branch since its formation. A patchwork quilt, which represented many hours of work, was handed in, and members are busy making further similar quilts for needy cases, A demonstration of the making of paper flowers was given by Miss McKinnev. The competition, Best Uso of One Yard of Cretonne," resulted as follows:—Mrs. L. Cathcart (sun hat) 1, Mrs. Henderson (work basket) 2. Tho president made an appeal for jam and rending matter for the relief camps. Paerata.—Mrs. O. E. Burton, vicepresident. presided at the August meeting. Following tho recitation of tho creed, Blake's "Jerusalem" was rendered by members of the music circle. An interesting account of the recent Dominion conference in Wellington was riven' by the branch's delegate, Mrs. Young. ' Mrs. Illsley reported on the activities of the sewing circle, and said that the demonstration of 'inner flowermnking by Mesdanies Williams and Smith, of Patumnhoe, had been thoroughly enjoved. During the social halfhour 'two songs. "Annie Laurie" and "Tho Quest," were given by the music circle, and "Sunshine and Bain," by Mrs. Alec. Clark. A humorous recitation by Mrs. Selwyn Pegler and a sketch, "A Flower Tragedy." by Mesdnmes J. V. Burton and Illsley and Miss Betty Jamieson, wero thoroughly appreciated.
