TAURANGA NEWS

CARNIVAL QUEEN BALL The carnival week organised by the Tauranga branch of the Women's Division of the Farmers' Union came to an end with a carnival ball at which the successful contestant was crowned queen. The Town Hall was gaily decorated with numbers of coloured balloons and excellent music was provided bv the dance band. The crowning ceremony was performed by Mrs. C. E. Macmillan, wife of the Hon. C. E. Macmillan, member for the district, who also complimented tho branch on its work and its increasing membership. The carnival queen, Miss Belle Turner (representing the Town), was led forward by the Mayoress, Mrs. A. E. Newsham, who later presented' the other candidates —Miss Ina Prole (Omokoroa), Miss Clarice Hodges (Oropi), Miss Muriel Drummond (Pye's Pa), Miss Barbara Vaughan (Katikati) and Miss Tarna Rundle (Whakamarama). Mrs. Macmillan was in a frock of wine coloured satin beaute with a long train of deep red and silver. Mrs. Newsham wore shell pink embossed georgette; Mrs. Christian (president of tho Tauranga branch), black georgette and silver; Mrs. White, black marocain with sequin trimming; Miss Turner, delphinium blue coin spot net with long white velvet train; Miss Prole, jade satin beaute; Miss Drummond, pink satin beaute; Miss Vaughan, yellow frilled net; Miss Rundle, pearl crinkled taffeta; Miss Hodges, orango satin beaute and black net. Others present included Mrs. MacDougull, Mrs. J. London, Mrs. Johnson (Pye's Pa), Mrs. Bell, Mrs. Foster (Omokoroa), Mrs. W. N. Goode (Dannevirke), Mrs. H. McDonald, Mrs. C, G. Griffiths, Mrs, It. Johnston, Mrs. Hitchcock (Omokoroa), Mrs. J. F. Parkinson, Mrs. McKenna, Mrs. Charles Tilby, Mrs. Weir. Mrs, D. G. Turner, Mrs. Pilbrow, Mrs. A. Matheson, Mrs. L.
