REDUCED .CONTRIBUTION [by telegraph-—OWN correspondent] WARKWORTH, Wednesday A letter, was received by the Rodney County Council to-day from the Main Highways Boarcf in reply'to the. council's application for a reduction of £lO a mile in its contribution toward the maintenance of the BirkenheadMaungaturoto main highway. The board stated that it would reduce the council's contribution by £l7O, or £5 a mile, provided -that the council paid arrears amounting to £715 and increased its contribution' on the Kaukapakapa-Port Albert main highway by £l5O for the current year and the following year. It was decided to accept the Highways Board's offer. The council discussed the matter of the purchase of a power grader. It was dc-ided to/secure from the Main Highways Board a used tractor grader. Advice was received from the Unemployment Board that unemployed labour would be made available for the eradication of ragwort. The board also suggested that unemployed men should be engaged on the traffic census to be taken this month. A letter was received from the Department of Transport stating that a driver's licence could be issued to a one-armed driver provided that a special apparatus was fixed to the car for signalling. During a /discussion on the proposed amendments to the Motor Vehicles Act, 1924, several members said they conGidered that motor vehicles owners who put on their new number plates a few days before/ June 1 should not be penalised.
