MUSEUM AT HAMILTON
A BUILDING AVAILABLE ADOPTION OF PROPOSAL [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON. "Wednesday A proposal to convert a disused transformer house, formerly owned by the Hamilton Borough Council, and situated on an elevated position at the corner of Seddon Road and Rosstrevor Street, into a museum, was adopted by the Hamilton Domain Board last night. The site of the building was exchanged for a section in Seddon Park two years ago, and since then the house has been used as a Boy Scouts' hall. Geographically, it is situated near the centre of the town, and overlooks Seddon Park, Boyes' Park, the Rosstrevor Street tennis courts, and Rugby Park. The building is of concrete, and with little alteration could be made to suit the requirements of a museum, its size being adequate for the purpose.
In bringing forward the proposal, the chairman, Mr. W. H. Paul, said the area surrounding the building could be transformed into a beautiful park of native trees. The Mayor, Mr. J. R. Fow, endorsed the scheme, and thought the museum could be established to mark the 70th anniversary of the foundation of the town, which fell this month.
Members of the board were unanimous in support of Mr. Paul's proposals, and the work of forming the park will be put in hand,at once.
