SECONDARY INDUSTRIES
PLEA FOR SUPPORT [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Wednesday A plea for support for secondary industries was made by Mr. F. M. Hills, of Auckland, in an address to a meeting of Hamilton business men to-day. Mr. Hills contended that secondary industries were worth a great deal more to tho Dominion than many people imagined. Protection in New Zealand frequently lowered prices, although generally it did not affect them appreciably. When.it raised them the direct extra cost was overwhelmingly balanced by the extra prosperity of the country resulting from tho local industry. As long as protection, or assistance, was not excessive, it created work, which, in turn, created wealth.
