LEAGUE OF MOTHERS
Sandringham.—The third anniversary of the Sandringham League of Mothers was celebrated recently. The Key. C. G. Scriingeour gave an address and remembrances were sent to the oldest member, Mrs. Robinson, on the attainment of her 80th birthday. Mrs. Walpole sang and the branch's'reading and dramatic club presented a sketch, the participants being Mesdames Chester, Crumley, Leaning and Lloyd. The committee served afternoon tea, a special feature being the birthday cake.
Second Remnera Branch.—At a recent meeting an address was given by Mr. Birch on the Japanese reformer and philosopher Kagawa. The lecturer drew special attention to Kagawa's successful work in coping with extreme overcrowding in the slums and on the cfinal boats in Tokio. This gained for him official recognition and selection by the Government for special work in Tokio in 1931.
The annual meeting of the Waimauku branch of the League of Mothers was held in the local hall. Mrs. T. Charter presided for part of the time. The election of officers was as follows:—President. Mrs. T. Charter; vice-presidents. Mesdames J. Copeland, C. Jackson and Mrs. T. Kerr Taylor; secretary, Mrs. A. Burrell,; committee, Mesdames S. Walker, L. Wighttnan, A. Wintour, Morrison, J. Martin and Le Heron. Mrs. Burrell, who has acted as secretary during the past five years, was presented with a leather shopping bag in appreciation of her services. The afternoon tea hostesses were Mrs. J. Martin and Mrs. W. Hollinger. Mrs. F. Whyte, Auckland provincial secretary, was among those present.
