THE RELIEF OF MORTGAGORS
Si r , —It is satisfactory to note the reply of tho Minister of Justice, Hon. J. G. Cobbe, to representations from tho Associated Chambers of Commerce with reference to the extension of tho Mortgagors Belief Act. He stated that from reports received the timo was not 3*et opportune for tho repeal of tho legislation in question, which had proved most beneficial and necessary and was still essential for the general good of tho country ns a whole. The Associated Chambers, representing the business community, while advocating the speedy abolition of the Mortgagors Relief Act, offer nothing constructive as to refinancing the liugo general mortgage debt now overdue. How do they suggest remedying matters with our glutted markets for most of our primary products and our lower land values ? Tho Associated Chaipbers should take a wider view concerning the financial conditions prevailing before any drastic measures as suggested would "be capable of successful fulfilment. Observer.
