THE BOLSHEVIK REVOLUTION
Sir, —One cannot resist asking "Muscovite" upon what evidence ho bases liis assertion that "this revolution was conceived in treachery." I presume ho is referring to the October (Bolshevik) revolution as distinct from the outbreak in March. Unbiassed historians agree that the Bolsheviks merely translated into slogans the popular feelings and cjesires of the masses and assisted in organising them for enforcing the adoption of their demands against organised and minority opposition, devolution, counter-revolution and civil war fermented in animosity, bitterness and hatred, unleash all selfrestraint and excesses, reprisals and atrocities are indulged in in varying degree by both sides. That the masses of the U.S.S.R. are receiving tho measure of freedom to which they are justly entitled must bo conceded, otherwise, conscious of their revolutionary heritage and power, they would not hesitate to throw off an irksome yoke.
