STOCKS AND SHARES

THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE

STRONG DEMAND FOR LOANS

• An caster buying tone developed in the investment market on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday and the turnover was hardly up to the average. Government loans were an exception, the demand for these showing a stronger tendency. Buyers of loans raised their limits for practically all issues, the advances varying from 5s to los. However, supplies were firmly he'd, and no business was recorded. In debentures a parcel of Auckland Harbour Board, 1917, 5} per cents sold at £lO5, a drop of £3 on a cum interest price, and Auckland Gas. ]935, 6.} per cents, sold 10s lower at £lO3 10s. Levels for banks fluctuated slightly, there being no definite trend. Commercials showed a marked improvement, a parcel changing hands, ex dividend, nt 15s; lOd, a rise of 4d. More were unobtainable at this price, which represented a gain of 3d in offers. New South Wales were sought 5s lower at £3O, a lot being secured unchanged at £3O ss. Unchanged levels ruled for New Zealands arid Reserve Banks. Concessions wore made by holders of FOiuo insurances, but the demand generally was steady. No sales were recorded. Operations in tho general sections xvere somewhat restricted, in loan and agency a parcel of Traders Finance, 7s 6d paid, was taken 3d dearer at 2s 9u. Renown Collieries, preference, had salo Id higher at ls 6d, and Auckland Gas. 13s paid, sold at 18s sd, a loss of 7d •on a cum dividend sale price. A rise of 6il to 18s 6d in otters accompanied a transfer in Dunlop Perdriaus Sd higher at 18s 7d. Robinson Ice changed hands at the current rate, 18s. CLOSING QUOT ATIOiNS
