CLARA BUTT'S SON
TRAGIC DEATH ON FARM By tho death in Rhodesia of Mr. Victor Kennerley Rumford, Dame Clara Butt, the famous contralto singer, has lost her only surviving son. Her elder son, Roy, died some years ago. Victor Rumford was found dead by a native servant on the floor of his house at his farm. According to medical opinion the cause of his death was a gunshot wound in the head, accidentallv self-inflicted. " Victor was about 6ft. 7in., and a fine voung fellow of 26," stated a friend of the family. " Ho took up farming in South Africa five years ago. He had travelled round the world with his parents, and decided that that was the country he liked best of all. Two years ago he was homo on a visit and seemed in perfect health.- Ho was educated at Malvern College, and was brought up to the open-air life." Dame Clara Butt was herself ill in Guy's Hospital, London, recently.
