TARAWERA ERUPTION OF 1886 RECALLED BY THE DEATH OF ONE OF THE FEW SURVIVING EYE-WITNESSES Ruins of the native church at Wairoa, one of the settlements on the shores of Lake Tarawcra, overwhelmed by the eruption.
