ADULTERATED FOOD
BRITISH DISCLOSURES EXTRAORDINARY DETAILS HEALTH MINISTRY'S REPORT (Received August 9, 7.55 p.m.) LONDON, Aucust 9 Extraordinary details of adulteration of food arc given in tho annual report of the Ministry of Health. This says that 31,000 samples of miscellaneous foods were analysed during the year. The resultant discoveries included the following:—Yeast containing arsenic; cider, dried pears and canned beans containing copper; chicken and ham paste containing lead; and spiced beef and tongue containing tin. The report states that a sample of " concentrated lime juice " consisted of a flavoured solution of citric acid with glycerine and that some soda water entirely lacked sodium bicarbonate.
