MOTOR-CAR TRIAL
STRENUOUS JOURNEY ROUGH ALPINE COURSE (Received August 9, 9.5 p.m.) British Wireless RUGBY, August 8 On the completion at Aix les Bains of the first stage of the International Alpine motor-car trial, which was liegun from Nice yesterday, the competitors agreed that the course had been the most trying they had ever experienced in this event. Recent heavy storms had turned many of the mountain roads into rockstrewn tracks. The race follows difficult mountain routes in France, Italy Austria and Switzerland, and the drivers will have little rest before they reach their goal on Sunday. There were many mechanical casualties yesterday, but all the 45 British cars entered reached Aix safely. Today's route, about 300 miles, is from Aix to Interlaken, over the Great and Little St. Bernard Passes and the Col Dupillon.
