NORTH ISLAND RECORD TOTAL OF OVER A MILLION WHOLE DOMINION 1,615,101 [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Thursday The population of the North Island for tho first time has reached the million mark, tho total, including Maoris, being estimated at 1,001,G1G. The South Island total is 547,339. The total estimated population of New Zealand proper, excluding Maoris, is 1,475,696, but including dependencies and mandated territory the figure is 1,615,101.

During the quarter ended Juno 30 the population showed an increase of 46, compared with an increase of 406 in the corresponding quarter of 1933. Tho Maori population for the Dominion numbers 73,259, the Cook Islands 15,852, tho Tokelau Islands 1147, and Samoa 49,147.
