RUAWARO TRAGEDY

INQUEST ON MRS. LAKEY EVIDENCE AT HUNTLY TO-DAY FINAL ACT IN MURDER CASE The adjourned inquest into the death of Christabel Lakey, which was opened before Mr. F. Harris, J.P., at Huntl.v on October 16, 1933, is to be resumed to-day. On October 16 evidence of identification was taken and the inquest was adjourned sine die. Mrs. Lakey and her husband, Samuel Pender Lakev, were murdered on their farm at Ruawaro on October 15 and the following day the body of Mrs. Lakey was found at the edge of the duck-pond on the property. A jury subsequently found that certain exhibits produced in the Supreme Court wero part of the remains of Samuel Lakey. A neighbour, William Alfred Bayly, was found guilty of the double murder and was executed at Mount Eden gaol on July 20. It has- been decided by the Solicitor-General that it will not be necessary, to hold an inquest into the death of Samuel Lakey.

When the inquest on Mrs. Lakey is resumed at Huntly to-day it is expected that representatives of the Auckland police will tender evidence of the cause of death, based on evidence given at the Supreme Court trial. The coroner will call as a witness Constable Robertson, of Huntly, who was one of those who found the body. It is expected that with this evidence the coroner will be in a position to pass a formal verdict.
