INCREASE IN SALARIES PAYMENT BEFORE HOLIDAY 400 IN AUCKLAND PROVINCE [BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION! CJIRISTCHTTRCH. Wednesday Increased rates for rationed school teachers which were promised a short time ago by the Minister of Education are now in operation, according to advice received by the Canterbury Education Board. Rationed teachers who formerly received a salary of £6O a year and a boarding allowance of £24, now receive £72 and £36. Tho increase dates from August 1 and comes as a surprise, as it was not expected until after the school holidays. In all, 260 teachers in Canterbury and Westland benefit from the increase. Official intimation of the increased rates had not reached the Auckland Education Board yesterday, but it is expected to come to hand to-day. It has been clearly understood hero, as notified in. the Herald, that tho increase would date from August 1, and preparations arc being made for payment accordingly. Payments are usually made about tho end of tho month, but on this occasion, owing to tho intervention of the school holidays, salaries will be paid about August 17, immediately before the holidays begin. About 400 teachers throughout the Auckland province will bo affected by the increased rates.
