TREE-PLANTING SCHEME

Consideration was given at the annual meeting of the Masterton Beautifying Society recently to a proposal to plant up to 10,000 black wattles on the river banks and other vacant spaces in the borough. Mr. H. E. Gardner said that he and Mr. L. Robinson had considered the matter und had brought it under the notice of the Borough Council as a means of absorbing unemployed labour. The trees, he added, would brighten the river banks and would also be a valuable asset to tho borough, .as they would provide battens, posts, house blocks and firewood in 20 years' time.
