TELEGRAPHIC CHESS
AUCKLAND AND WELLINGTON The telegraphic chess match of 20 boards a side between Auckland and Wellington was commenced on Saturday night, play beginning at (5.30 and concluding at 11. The Auckland learn met at the Auckland Chess Club's rooms in- His Majesty's Arcade, a telegraph operator being in attendance to transmit and receive moves. The Auckland team won the toss and played white at the odd numbered boards. The match will bo concluded next Saturday, and unfinished games will be subject to adjudication. The Auckland team, in order of selection, is ns follows:—D. T. Jones. A. Pickett, H. D. Addis, J. Buohan, E. King, G. Sale, F. R. Jeffreys. N. Ogle, R. E. Baeyertz, C. G. Lennard, H. Lees. R. O. Scott, H. Oakley Browne (captain), C. A. Langabcer, 11. S. Symouds. B. Gough, A. B. Dallow, Dr. T. Gordon Short, Mrs. Gordon Short, C. B. Newick.
Following is the Wellington team:—A. W. Gyles (captain). G. P. Anderson, W. Mason, H. H. Godtschalk, F. C. Kelling, G. Wiglinm. J. L. Hardy, R. D. Didsbury, J. Otto, D. Wild, W. C. White, E. ,T. Dyer, A. E. .Tcsstip, H. Ij. Thirtle, 11. J. Thompson, 11. A. Godtschalk, H E. Ashby. F. F. Grady, Dr. Myers, H. P. Ynrrell. Mr, A. Lamont was umpire in Auckland for Wellington, and Mr W, F.
