COLLEGE RIFLES BEATS EDEN The greater skill of its backs was the chief factor in College Rifles defeat of Eden by 16 points to 6. It scored four tries, two of which wero converted, to two penalty o-oals. Tho College Rifles' backs received many opportunities from their forwaids, and in spite of the heavy conditions underfoot, mad© bright combined rushes, running one another into position well, and passing and handling the ball accurately. In contrast, the Eden backs had not developed their combination to the same extent, and in most instances, their movements broke down at tho five-eighths. Among the College Rifles forwards, Batty played with his usual keenness aiid vigour K Stewart and Laery did their full share in' the tight, and Watson and I. Stewart were prominent in the loose. The halfback, Thompson, was at the top of his form, his headlness and nippiness bein" the cause of his scoring two tries. Vear wsl steady at first five-eighths, and the second five-eighths, McCormick, gave a fine display, being always troublesome to the defence with his straight running and judicious kicking. The centre, Wales, combined well with McCormick. and also with Albrecht, who played a useful «ame on the wing.
