SITUATION VERY SERIOUS DEATHS AND PRIVATIONS CAPITAL NOW THREATENED By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received July 22, 5.5 p.m.) WARSAW. July 21 It is officially stated that 50,000 families are homeless as the result of the Hoods in the Carpathians and that 30,000 more people are still in peril. The death-roll, it is feared, will total 180. The damage is estimated at many millions of pounds. The Hoods now threaten Warsaw, where the River Vistula is 18ft. above its normal level and is rising at a rate of tour inches ail hour. There is grave fear of the collapse of the earthworks which protect the populous low-lying portion of the capital.
