DECISIONS OF BOARD Proposals for the formation of a footpath, complete with kerbing and channelling, in front of the railway department houses at, Papatoetoe, as suggested by the Papatoetoe Town Board were rejected by the department in a letter to the board last night. .It states the expenditure which would be necessary by the department under the board's proposals could not be sanctioned. The department considered a. satisfactory job could be made by forming .footways, providing outlet drains and surfacing with scoria. The board referred the proposals to the Works Committee. The commissioner of transport advised that arrangements had been made to give effect to the proposal adopted at the recent conference of traffic inspectors under which a Dominion-wide "drive" would be commenced on August 1 to reduco accidents and ensure gi-eater safety on tho roads by a check on brakes and lights of all motor vehicles. The board decided to support the proposal. Donations of £1 Is were made to the Auckland Boys' Unemployment Committee and the local St. John Ambulance Brigade. A substantial rise in the well level at the waterworks was reported by the water engineer.
