DOMINION ASSOCIATION REVIEW OF PAST SEASON ANNUAL MEETING IN AUCKLAND The report- to bo presented at. the annual meeting of the New Zealand Bowling Association to be held at the Hotel Cargen next Wednesday states that 22 centres were now affiliated to the association, 11 in inch island. The total membership of the 347 clubs affiliated was 15,560, as against 15,-'SOO last year, an increase of 266 members. The following clubs were granted affiliation during the. year:—Wellington Centre, Paekakariki Club, Parapnrnumu Club; Christchurch Centre, Darfield Club. With the concurrence of. the adjacent centres —Auckland and South Auckland —approval was given to the formation of the Bay of Plenty Bowling Centre, with headquarters at Whakatane.

Taking everything into consideration, the entries, received for the annual Dominion tournament were very satisfactory. It was regretted that sufficient-players did not come over from Australia to enable test matches to be' played prior : to the tournament. Eleven players from Australia took part in the tournament. .The singles drew an entry of 168, the winner being W. Carswell, of the Taieri Club. In the pairs, for which an entry of 180 was received, the successful team comprised J. McPherson and J. Veitch, of the West Harbour Club. Ninetyeight competitors took jiart in the rink event. G. Dickßon, F. Redpath. H. Gibson and H. Wilson, of the Linwood Club, being successful. Since the last nnnual meeting a great deal of information in regard to the size and weight of bowls had been received from various centres and elsewhere, 'lhis Question wonld be dealt with at the annual meeting next Wednesday. The following recommendation in this repect had been forwarded by the executive for consideration at the annual meeting:—l'hat the council adopt the Australian weight-for-sizc of bowls, such regulation to apply solely to composition bowls and any wooden howls tliiit have been loaded in any manner The executive was informed that four Auckland bowlers would take part in the British Empiro Games. The executive had pleasure in nominating these players, and asked that they should be allowed to tako part in the three competitions, hut had since had advice that any individual player could take part in only one of the competitions. In addition to these four, there were several other New Zealand bowlers who would be in England at that time, and it was hoped to form satisfactory teams from some of these players. , , _ , An application from the Manawatu Centre for a North Island tournament to be held at Pnlmerston North at Easter was approved by the executive. Permission to change the name of the East Coast Bowling Centre to the Eawke's Bay Bowling Centre had been approved on condition that the boundaries of the centre were not to bo altered. , , f , The executive regrets the death of two gentlemen who in their day did excellent service for bowling in an administrative capacity and also in other ways. he . late Mr. H. F. M. Mercer, of Dunedin, was elected as n member of the council of the association in 1922-23 and also in the following year. He was vice-president in 1924-25, president in 1925-20 and immediate past president in 1926-27. The late Mr. F. Meadowcroft. of Wellington, was a, member of the council in the years 1920, 1921, 1922 and 1920; vice-president in 1923, president in 1921 and immediate past president in 1925. It was gratifying to record that the finances of the association had improved slightly during the 12 months. Last year the credit balance at the Bank of New Zealand was £l7l 2s 9d and the balance was now £l% ISs 3d. The annual tournament showed a profit of £56 Ss 9d. Last year the profit was £lB lGs 9d. Levies showed a slight improvement on last year.
