MARLBOROUGH TROTS MEETING AT NEW BRIGHTON BELLE 0' MINE'S CUP CHANCE BY ABAYDOS The Marlborough Trotting Club's annual meeting will be held at New Brighton to-morrow and the change of venue has resulted in record fields for the club. The acceptances show that it will be practically a Canterbury meeting, the only Blenheim competitor of note taking, part being Belle o' Mine, who showed signs of returning form at the Hawera Easter meeting. If she has made reasonable progress in the interval Belle o' Mine should race well in the Marlborough Cup. Two two-year-olds engaged in the Marlborough Cup who have displayed good form during the season are Morello and Young Travis. The former has registered some splendid performances over middle distances, and, although beaten three times by tke crack southern three-year-old War Buoy, has shaped rather well. If Morello can eee out the extra distance, he should be hard to beat. Ycung Travis won at two miles at the Westport Christmas meeting and there is no doubt about his staying ability. Recent failures may tend to put >iim out of favour. Lut. if paraded in his best form. Young Travis should make the lace interesting. One of the best novice pacers produced in the early stages of the season was Marie Celeste who soon won her way out of the slow classes. She had a fine run of success until meeting Worthy Light at Wellington, where she was beaten into third place. Marie Celeste is not deficient in stamina and with her undoubted speed she must be considered dangerous.

The Sapling Stakes o Winner Another improver with excellent credentials is Elvo, and, provided he strikes a good track, his prospects in the chief race should be good. Elvo has won his races at the Tight end and the distance should not trouble him. The Sapling Stakes winner Aloana Tama will have another opportunity to display his prowess, and, although he will be meeting a number of older and useful horses in the Waterlea Handicap, the two-.vear-old should severely test the best of them. Azure, a son of the defunct Blue Mountain King, is nicely placed on the limit of the Seddon Handicap. If ho is as good as hi* admirers claim, he should take a lot of beating. His form in the far South has been attractive. R. B. Berry has a very promising representative, Dundee, who figures on 12 yards in the Seddon Handicap. Dundee won his first race at Wellington and his latest success was achieved at Ashburton. where he conceded a large field of novices 84 yards and a beating. Dundee ia a most promising pacer and is likely to bo a sound favourite to-morrow. Modem Lady's Engagements The Auckland-owned Modern Lady, who recently won a race at the trotting gait after previously being successful as a pacer, claims two engagements. She is well back in the Awaruu Handicap, but she is on the front of the Picton Handicap. Modern Lady was bred in Auckland and is by Worthy Bond from the well-performed Florrie Bingon. Billy Sundy, who won two races when visiting Auckland in April and has since scored a success in the South, is on 48 yards ill the Picton Handicap. Although lie races best from the front. Billy Sundy requires only to make a good beginning tQ havo good prospects. ' Indolent, who was purchased by a patron of C. S. Donald's stable at the Waikato May meeting, is booked to have his first southern race to-morrow. He is set a stiff task oft 84 yards in the Picton Handicap, but, if he has made any improvement since winning at Cambridge, should make a forward showing. Ohinemntu. who defeated "e I\anii at Te Arolia and was second to Harvest Dillon at Auckland, claims an engagement in the twomiles trotting race and should have reasonable prospects off the limit. Ohinemntu did not show up well in her races at .Hamilton, but she should have freshened up since then and may have made some improvement. MR. GAINE CARRINGTON'S STUD REPORT OF REMOVAL DENIED [BY telegraph—own correspondent] GiSBORNE, Thursday A report from Wanganui to the effect that Air. Caine Carrington, of Gisborne, had purchased a property on the Wanganui River for the purpose of a stud farm, to which he intended to remove Hunting Song and Defoe, his imported horses, is denied bv the Makaraka studmaster. Mr. Carrington said he had had more than one offer of assistance in establishing his stud elsewhere. His two horses were wanted badly by certain Auckland interests, which had nmde him a really good offer to take his establishment north. There was also a strong demand in the South Island, where he could get good terms, but he was not desirous of moving from Poverty Bay. ENTRIES FOR PUKEKOHE Entries for the Franklin Racing Club's extra mpating at Pukekohe on July 21 close "t 5 p.m. to-day with the secretary. Mr. W. J. Short. Pukekohe, or Mr A. J l .
