ROTORUA BOROUGH
RESERVE FOR RECREATION SPRING CARNIVAL WEEK [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] ROTORUA, Thursday
A report upon recent negotiations with the Tourist Department in regard to the control of Pukeroa Reserve was given by the Mayor, Mr. T. Jackson,"' at a meeting of the Rotorua Borough Council last evening. The position now is that the department is willing to concede the conncil's right to he consulted in the administration of the reserve and, with the exception of a certain area, to give control of the land to the council for recreation purposes. It was recommended by the Reserves Committee that the borough solicitor should prepare a rough draft of legislation which would be acceptable to the council and submit this to the Tourist Department as a basis of negotiations. The recommendation was adopted.
The Advancement Committee reported that arrangements in connection with the spring carnival week had ' been finalised. The committee recommended that a reception should be arranged for Miss Jean Batten during her visit to Rotorua and that a charge should be made, the proceeds to he devoted to the Mayor's relief fund. The recommendation was adopted. ' A resolution was carried urging that the building subsidy scheme should be revived at the earliest possible date, and suggesting that its application bo restricted to the building of new dwellings or the repair, renovation or remodelling of existing house property.
