MISS BATTEN'S GIFT

Sir, —I feel that the letters on Miss Batten's gift call for n protest against the mean spirit shown by a- small section of the community. ]f all outstanding achievement is to go unrewarded and the standard of the country measured by its poor, then all progress will be stopped. Let people desist from petty pin-pricking of a gallant girl. Of course Miss liatten need take no notice, as the great majority of thp public are only too pleased that grit and determination have been recognised in a tangible form. In Debt.
