MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES
HOURS IN CHRISTCHURCH The question of a reduction in the number of hours in the working week of employees will be considered by committees of the Christchurch City Council, according to a decision arrived at at a special meeting of the council. In the course of the discussion the Mayor, Mr. I). G. Sullivan, M.P., stated that to reduce the number of working hours to 40 a week without any reduction in wages would cost between £IO,OOO and £'12,000 a year. He added, that, though he believed that the shorter working week was definitely coming, he could see little prospect of its being introduced by the present council.
