ENCOURAGING THRIFT
STAMPS FOR CHILDREN POST OFFICE BANK SCHEME [T3r TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] WELLINGTON. Thursday With a view to encouraging thrift among school children, the Hon. A. Hamilton, Postmaster-General, has decided to establish a school savings branch as part of the Post Office Savings Bank system. This will not disturb the present stamp saving scheme or the use of home savings bank boxes so as to preclude chiklrcti from having ordinary accounts as well. The issue of penny thrift stamps will be a feature of the new scheme, which will be introduced only in those schools where the teachers are prepared to act as agents. The stamps will be obtainable from the teachers, and when six h#vo been affixed to a form provided, the slip will be retained by the teacher,, who will credit thy child's account with that amount. Cash deposits of a shilling and over can bo made. Wellington schools will be tho first to carry out the system.
