MOUNT ROSKILL RATING
URBAN FARM PROPERTIES A deputation waited on the Mount Roskill Road Board at its meeting on Tuesday night protesting against tho board's decision to levy rates for 1934-35 on 75 per cent of the values appearing on the vajuation roll, in accordance with the provisions of section 5 of the* filiation of Land. Amendment Act, lJoo. On behalf of the deputation Mr. E. A. Herd/Said that about seven years ago rating on unimproved value had been introduced in the district, resulting in. great hardship to farmers. To overcame this the Government had introduced urban farm land rating. The board's action would have a nullifying effect on the benefit thus conferred in many cases, thus causing further hardship. Mr. R. W. Parkinson stated that many ratepayers on the farm land rating list %ould also benefit from the 2.0 per cent reduction, and it would be only those who already had had their valuations reduced prior to the compilation of the urban farm land rating list, and had been benefiting at the expense of'other ratepayers, who wonld be - adversely affected• The great majority of the ratepayers would benefit from the board's action. At a later stage Mr. J. R. Robertson gave notice to move at the next meeting that the board's resolution be rescinded. "That means another month's delay in getting ''out our rating demands," remarked Mr. A. T. O'Donnell. "We have been dilly-dallying for months with these matters and are becoming a laughing stock."
