DEATH FROM SHOCK
WOMAN'S FALL INTO BATH SEVERE BURNS SUFFERED The inquest into the death of Mrs. Katherine Reid, aged 32, of 75 Vermont Street, Ponsonby, which occurred at the Auckland Hospital on June 12, following burns received through her falling, into a bath of boiling water at her home the previous day, was completed by Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., coroner, yesterday. Constable V. L. Bagge said he had inspected the bathroom, in which two floor* boards had rotted away and the linoleum which covered that portion was broken in places and had a very rough surface. The bath was of the built-in galvanised type and was set very low to the floor. In witness' opinion it would - have been an easy matter for any person to have fallen into it.
Dr. M. L. R. Morley said he found Mrs. Reid on her admission to the hospital to be suffering from extensive burns of the second degree, more than one-third of the body surface being affected. In witness' opinion death was due to severe shock as a result of extensive burns.
The coroner's finding was that deceased had died from shock as a result of severe burns received through her falling into a bath of boiling water.
