WOMEN'S INSTITUTES

-Activities of institutes are reported as follows: — New Group Formed. —A new institute federation called the Northern Wniroa Federation, was formed at a meeting held in Daryavilie. Mrs. Patterson, the Dominion president, Mrs. Kelso, Dominion organising secretary, and Mrs. Wvatt, Auckland executive, were among those present and 16 institutes were represented. '1 he following officers were elected: —President. Mrs. Crump; vice-presidents. Mrs. Clayton and .Mis. Hemphill; secretary, Mrs. Ballantyne; treasurer, Mrs. Savident. Eureka. —The president gave a report of the annual council meeting. A demonstration ot passe partout was given by Mrs. L. Masters. The com petition, "something new from something old." brought wonderful results and Mrs. Hinton was awarded first prize. Arrangements tor the first birthday party were discussed. A small presentation was made to the retiring secretary. Glen Massey.—A demonstration ot "How to Light a Primus" was given by Mrs. Tail field, senr., and the competition, kitchen utensils, was won by Miss Lees and Miss Brown. The roll call, "What I would like to see 011 this year's programme," produced \ aned and amusing responses. Huntly.—Mrs. Farrar reported on the annual council meeting held recently in Hamilton. A demonstration of wool rug-making by Miss Johnson A\as appreciated. Competitions were:—-Best thrift article: Mrs. .1. Peed, 1; Mrs. Wtiyte, 2; Mrs. Alvev. 3. Pot of jcllvi Mrs. Outhwaite, 1; Mrs. Harbock, 2. Novel competition: Miss L. Hutchinson. The roll call was "household hints." Recently a most successful social was held. Cards, games and dancing were enjoyed and a play, "Heart's Love," was produced.
